Book on sustainable development in the Amazon receives Bahasa Indonesia language version

The book "Sustainable Development in Practice: Lessons from the Amazon ", written by Virgilio Viana, General Superintendent of the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS), was launched in August in the language Bahasa Indonesia. The publication had already been released in English in the Commonwealth Forestry Conference, em Edimburgo, Scotland, in July last year.

The book presents nine key lessons for countries seeking to promote sustainable development, new paradigms for exposing exploitation of forest conservation practices. In September 2010, a publicação recebeu destaque na revista britânica “The Economist”, one of the most widely read and respected journals in the world. According to the magazine, o trabalho desenvolvido no Amazonas serve de “Lição para os Outros”.

Virgilio Viana is a professor and forester, PhD em Biologia column the University of Harvard, com pós-Doutorado em Desenvolvimento Sustentável pela Universidade da Flórida, being the first Secretary of the Environment and Sustainable Development of Amazonas, between 2003 until 2008. For ele, “o livro fornece lições aprendidas com a implementação de políticas, programas e projetos ambientais no Estado do Amazonas para o intercâmbio de informações entre os países em desenvolvimento”.

The foreword was written by Program Director Forests and Climate Change Programme (FORCLIME), Rolf Krezdorn. For Rolf's work discusses how to generate and bring to life innovative ideas and solutions to a forest-based economy. “E e ao patrocinar a tradução desse livro a FORCLIME objetiva que as informações e os conhecimentos adquiridos no Estado do Amazonas sejam acessíveis à classe politica e partes interessadas na Indonésia”, comments.
