Black River Na RDS, Craft House is built with support from community

Who is the community Tumbira, Rio Negro Reserve of Social Development, may find a little history of the community while they know the local crafts. The House of Crafts Museum and Jose Garrido, was launched to promote art and culture of the reservation, in over a space built with the support of the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation - FAS.

No hall, an exhibition presents the history of the community, which hosted the Center for Conservation and Sustainability Agnello Bittencourt Uchoa, built by FAS, in 2010. Non-domestic, visitors can also see up close the handiwork of the Amazon river.

The new space was designed by Portuguese architect José Castro Caldas, who also served directly in the construction of 120m ² structure.

With the intention to stay in Brazil for only three weeks, participando do International People’s Project Amazônia, um programa da Children's International Summer Villages (CISV) in partnership with FAS, Jose says that he changed his mind.

"I got three weeks to participate in the IPP. But he soon realized what it was like to have the opportunity to design a house. Apr
esentei the project to the community in meeting. He was accepted. I was to help build ", comments.

Much of the materials used, as wood and straw craft managed to cover, were found in the community. The construction included the direct participation of residents and spontaneous.

"Many things have motivated the work, like the fact it is a community building, make it your concept and involve the most of all people in the building ", Joseph ends.
