Sustainable turn takes more than eight thousand people to public spaces in Manaus

The first edition of Sustainable Turnaround in Manaus was in the days 25 until 26 July, reunindo mais de 8 thousand people in various public spaces of the city. More than three tons of recyclable material that would be disposed of incorrectly were collected during the event. In Sport and Leisure Center of the district Redemption, an initiative proposed to the residents of Manaus West Zone exchange recyclables for food such as flour, ovos, spaghetti, oil and milk. Each item was heavy and the final value, converted into the DPB.

“The idea was to engage the community and show the value that recyclable materials have for a better environment. They passed through the center over 400 people, with many stories, including volunteers who collected recyclable material for exchange basket, and donating it to a needy family”, explains Sergio Miranda, Event organizer.

Hundreds of garbage bags were also removed from Mindu Park, in a sustainable hike which included involvement of almost 200 voluntários. The action was supported by the Brazilian Army, and sought to bring together children, youth and adults to collect waste from trails and streams that make up the ecological corridor. The material composed a monument erected in front of the park, the “fisherman waste”. “The idea of ​​the monument is a fisherman in his activity and instead of fish waste only comes into your network”, explains José Coelho engineer, who produced the sculpture.

Offices, conversation and debates wheels also led the public to Mindu. The first discussion brought to the center of the debate to cover climate change by Amazon Media, bringing together experts, jornalistas, students and the general population. “A major differential upset is to promote initiatives that are not 'eco-boring'. The idea is to discuss sustainability in a cheerful manner and inspiring, bringing family and gathered all tastes and budgets”, explains the founder of the initiative in São Paulo, André Palhano.

Activities in Jefferson Peres park led free recreational workshops for children and adolescents. In Largo de São Sebastião, a supportive clothesline promoted the free exchange of used clothing, promoted by the organization Global Shapers. A fair of organic products has been promoted by the Amazon Conservation Institute and Sustainable Development (Idesam) the House Soup, to encourage family farming in residents of rural Manaus. drawing workshops, cine-debates and a parade on sustainable fashion happened in the Last day of the initiative.
