The implementation of the agreement between the institutions was initiated through dialogue conducted by the general superintendent of the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS), Virgilio Viana, and the chief representative of the Bank in Brazil, Victor Rico, in November 2016. The activities under the agreement will be developed by Solutions Network for Sustainable Development in the Amazon (SDSN-Amazon), secretariada pela FAS.

Victor Rico, cooperation will be a valuable tool for the CAF to continue implementing their priority policies for the protection and sustainable use of natural resources. “Temos claro que existe uma gama de oportunidades de trabalhos conjuntos, not only in Brazil, mas também na região dos países amazônicos”, said.

“For us the signing of this cooperation agreement is a very important step in the realization of an extremely relevant international partnership. This cooperation is also a recognition of CAF, which is one of the most important financial institutions in Latin America, on the quality and seriousness of the work developed by FAS in the Amazon. We hope that this cooperation will bring more fruit for the communities of coastal communities and reducing deforestation in the Amazon”, said Viana.

The actions seek to promote training and investment programs aimed at reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in the Amazon, which include storage, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks. Furthermore, the agreement aims to promote South-South cooperation activities based on the exchange of cooperation experiences of the Bolsa Floresta program; I support the actions of the REDD + program portfolio in Amazonas State; and collaboration with the platform-SDSN Amazon solutions to promote the activities of the Forest Programme of CAF.
