The report, Marconi Matos and Janaina Lepri, presented alternatives for sustainable use of wood in the Amazon and highlighted the work of FAS with sustainable management of wood, Amazon held in protected areas.

Main challenge for the conservation of the Amazon, illegal logging pressing thousands of hectares of forest near road and inland rivers. FAS believes that one of the alternatives to reduce this threat is to encourage the sustainable management of forest potential with riparian, seeking recovery of legal timber and ensuring income for communities. This action must be complemented by government initiatives inspection and monitoring, to increase the cost of illegal timber production.

Forest management of small scale has been supported in the Sustainable Development Reserves (Reserve) Rio Negro, Juma, Mamirauá, and the State Forest Maués, by offering training, equipment and support for environmental licensing of the management plans for the Amazon Institute of Environmental Protection (Ipaam). The action taken by the FAS has financial support of Bradesco and Amazon Fund / BNDES.
