Aiming to promote the qualification in furniture making and crafts for coastal entrepreneurs in Juruá, within the Amazon, the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS), in partnership with sitawi, He held the Creative Laboratory Securities Forest, an activity that took place in São Raimundo community, the Extractive Reserve of middle Juruá, in the municipality of Carauari, about 782 kilometers from Manaus.

"This is an unprecedented training that is going on in the region because it brings new knowledge, production techniques and development of innovative products that will assist in the challenge that is undertaken in the Amazon "said Wildney Mourao, FAS Entrepreneurship coordinator. To facilitate the formation, the laboratory with the participation of designer goods Iuçana Mouco and joinery leader Pippa Almeida, both with experience in creation and development of large furniture and wood crafts.

When all, 13 entrepreneurs in the region participated in the activity and received training involving design concepts such as creation and development of furniture, ergonomics and furniture technical drawing reading. The training also addressed issues facing the woodworking area as security and organization of workshop space, use and maintenance of tools and machinery and use of wood, marquetry techniques focusing on drying, machining and finishing.

During training, products such as coffee tables and cabinets were makers by participants. Furthermore, entrepreneurs also learned how to use new tools and machinery to make the most innovative production process. "Before I used the knife to finish and now I learned to use the router, which decreased to ten minutes work I took over an hour to do, said Fabricio de Souza, community entrepreneur Morada Nova.

The next steps of the project consist of market access actions and commercialization of the products developed during and after the Laboratory, Continued mentoring and coaching for entrepreneurs and monitoring of performance indicators and results.

The Securities of Creative Laboratory of Forest is an action of the Entrepreneurship project of the Middle Juruá Territory Program. The program is funded by USAID, Natura and Coca-Cola Brazil, coordinated by Sitawi and conducted in partnership with local associations of Carauari, a Secretaria de Estado de Meio Ambiente (Sema), the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) and the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS).
