Developed within one year, the initiative had as its objective to graduate Technicians in sustainable development to fulfil the local work demand and allow the performance of the riverine in the reserve’s communities. It’s the first time that this modality of course was offered in a conservation unit.
The course was offered through a network of partners: FAS, Centro de Educação Tecnológica do Amazonas (Cetam), Centro Estadual de Unidades de Conservação (Ceuc), Serviço Brasileiro de Apoio à Micro e Pequena Empresa (Sebrae-AM), Instituto Chico Mendes de Biodiversidade (ICMBio), Associação de Produtores Rurais de Carauari (Asproc), Associação de Moradores da RDS Uacari (Amaru), Conselho Nacional das Populações Extrativistas (CNS), Carauari Municipal City Hall, Coca-Cola Brasil and Natura.
On November of 2014, 45 students of the first class of the Technical Course in Sustainable Production in Conservation Unities graduated. The course was born from the communitarian demand to improve the production and to generate income. The solemnity happened at the Padre João Derickx Conservation and Sustainability Center, in Bauana community, located in the Uacari RDS, headquarter of the Technical Course.
The students had several information about the natural potentials of the place where they live, developing abilities about the resources to promote sustainable entrepreneurship activities. With innovative character, the course can be replicated to other parts of Brazil. The activity was divided in intensive modules and taught by high-qualified Teachers. In the end, the students prepared business plans to develop the different productive chains.
